ABOUT COLOMBIA

Weather

Colombia is just above the equator so you can expect the same temperature all year round.  Bogotá is in the mountains, so is typically between 50 and 65 degrees Fahrenheit.  It is a good idea to bring a light jacket, or a raincoat. It is not unusual to see the sun, clouds, and rain all within a day in Bogotá.

Anapoima is tropical, and hot. Be sure to bring a bathing suit and light, breathable clothing
/ sun protection.  Temperatures can drop at night so it is a good idea to bring a light jacket.

Planning Your Trip

With soaring Andean summits, Caribbean coasts, the Amazon jungle, and a rich history, Colombia is a great country to travel.  Below are some of our favorite places to check out, if you want to make the most of your trip. For more support, we recommend using these resources:

Lonely Planet
- Colombia
NYT
- 36 hours in Colombia

The Colombian capital cradled by the Guadalupe and Monserrate mountains, is a great place to explore.  The city has many attractions, with foodie haunts, the gold museum, and the private art collection of Colombia’s most famous artist Fernando Botero.

Andres’ hometown, and where Ryan spent two formative years, we agree with the NYT that Bogotá keeps getting better and better.  It is a bustling city, but if you get to know it, you are sure to find lots to love.

SANTA MARTA

The departments of Atlántico and Magdalena sit northeast of Cartagena, where the highest coastal mountain range in the world, the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, begins to rise from the sea. The increasingly charming Santa Marta and the beautiful coastal and mountainous attractions around it – namely Parque Nacional Natural (PNN) Tayrona, Ciudad Perdida, Minca and Palomino – are some of Colombia's most visited attractions.

CARTAGENA

Cartagena is a vibrant and bustling city steeped in history. Traverse Cartagena’s Old Town – a Unesco World Heritage Site – and its maze of cobbled alleys, fortresses, balconies covered in bright bougainvillea, and huge churches in leafy plazas. Dine and dance in the lively bars as the Caribbean beats carry you happily into the early hours, before going on a snorkeling expedition near the Baru and Rosario Islands, a coral reef archipelago comprising 27 islands - now a National Natural Park

ZONA CAFETERA

Hikes and unique scenery await in the Cocora Valley known for its towering wax palm trees, and vast sprawling coffee plantations. Visit a locally-run coffee farm, exporting world-famous coffee, and meander through charming colonial towns like Salento.
